Intake ventilation is a key component to both the performance and longevity of a home/ building and its roof system. Without the inflow of fresh cooler dry air into the attic/ roof space, there will be no way for heat and moisture to be regulated.
Intake ventilation must work in junction with exhaust ventilation to create what is called passive airflow. Passive airflow is the cycle in which warm moist air leaves the attic space and fresh cooler air enters. This helps regulate the temperature of the roof/ attic space with the temperature outside preventing heat build up and condensation.
Condensation in the attic space will lead to mold and mildew. A well regulated attic/ roof space temperature will help cut back on AC costs and help insure a higher quality air in the home. Inadequate roof/ attic ventilation will ultimtely effect roofing product warranties and even warranties from the company who installs the products.
