KICKOUT FLASHING

About Seipp Roofing, LLC

Why Kickout Flashing is Important

Kickout flashing damage can occur when water is able to penetrate the siding of a building, causing water stains, mold, and structural damage.

Causes

Missing kickout flashing

When kickout flashing is missing, water can accumulate and cause severe damage to exterior walls.

Improper installation

If kickout flashing is installed incorrectly, water can flow behind the siding and damage the structure.

Increased insulation

Modern construction uses more insulation and building wrap, which can make buildings less breathable and more likely to sustain water damage.

Signs

  • Water stains on the siding below where the gutter terminates
  • Algae on the siding below where the gutter terminates
  • Deterioration of the siding

Solutions

  • Install kickout flashing where the wall meets the bottom of the roof's slope
  • Install kickout flashing at the correct angle
  • Properly seal the kickout flashing
  • Use high quality caulking and check it regularly
